| Notes | This study series is based on a keynote address given by Archbishop Desmond Tutu sponsored by Trinity Church Wall Street in 2002. In his own distict style, Archbishop Tutu calls us to realize the essential truth of God's love for all creation and each one of us. Realizing this love will lead us to a more fulfilling relationship with God, self and community. His hour-long address is divided into six sessions covering the following themes:
- Growing Toward God (introduction)
- Earning God's Love? God loves us unconditionally. Why is that so difficult to internalize?
- Vulnerability Can vulnerability bring us closer to God?
- Joy What is the lesson of the parable of the Lost Sheep? What gives God joy?
- Theotropic We naturally "tend toward God." Therefore, how should we respond to others?
- True Contemplatives True contemplation, resting in the presence of God, is the beginning of action in the world.
Can be used in study sessions or as a weekend retreat. Study guide presents opportunities for discussion. Ideas for activities call participants to be introspecitve, and also present opportunities for evaluating the life and mission of a faith community. |
