| Notes | "True, evangelism as it is commonly practiced and understood is debased. But what's left if we can't find a way for people to connect and explore together matters of ultimate concern? What's left if we can't find spiritually open friends with whom to converse about our deepest dreams and longings? Getting buttonholed in the street by a so-called evangelist is rough, but living life with nothing but a channel-changer and small talk about sports, work, office politics, and weather ain't so hot either.
Let me offer this better vision of good evangelism and good evangelists: Good evangelists...are people who engage others in good conversation about important and profound topics such as faith, values, hope, meaning, purpose, goodness, beauty, truth, life after death, life before death, and God. They do this, not because they like to be experts and impose their views on others, but because they feel they are in fact sent by God to do so....Evangelists are people with a mission from God and a passion to love and serve their neighbors."
