TitleStories: How Mennonites came to be
NotesThis book establishes a context for Anabaptist-Mennonite beginnings by tracing several themes in the history of the church, from the story of Pentecost to the development of the Catholic Church, and the Protestant Reformation. Chapters 4 and 5 focus on the emergence of Anabaptism as a Spirit-inspired movement of radical reform that gradually assumed more structured forms in the Mennonite, Hutterite, Swiss Brethren, and Amish traditions.

Chapters 6 and 7 tell the story of how Anabaptist groups migrated out of Europe, and took root in North American and the Russian empire. Chapter 8 details ways the Mennonite church in North America has been renewed by the gift of ethnic and cultural diversity. Chapter 9 surveys the emergence of a truly global Anabaptist-Mennonite church. The final chapter reflects on how this tradition has understood its place within the broader Christian church.
