| Notes | In the year 2000, Slobodan Milosevic fought to hold power in Yugoslavia. He controlled an army, the police force, and most of the news media. But he underestimated his opponents, a group of students who attacked the regime with ridiucle, rock music, and a willingness to be arrested. The students were the beginning of a human rights and pro-democracy movement which seized parliament and extradited Milosevic for war crimes. The courage of hundreds of thousands of Serbs led to non-violent change.
